As you are aware, Family Carers Ireland have been actively lobbying government and opposition parties to have family carers included as a priority group for vaccinations. We have raised this within national and local media as well as writing to Minister Donnelly’s office seeking clarification on the status of family carers.
We have also written to the High-Level Task Force on Covid-19 Vaccination requesting that family carers are included as a priority group. FCI is also part of IPPOSI coalition seeking vaccination prioritisation.
Today we have seen a letter from the HSE in response to a question from Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson David Cullinane which states that family carers “are likely to be considered in the key worker group” which is under category 6 of the priority listings.
We are now seeking firm confirmation that this is indeed the case with the hope that we can confirm this to family carers across the country as a matter of extreme urgency. We will update you as soon as we can on this crucial issue for so many family carers across the country.
